On the loo
While sitting on the loo today at my parent's place, I was struck by the pictures on the wall. I have been away for 11 months, seen countless places, numerous countries. But the pictures hanging on the wall of their toilet are still the same. I know those pictures better than the back of my hand. What else do you look at while sitting there, conducting business? An amazing sense of familiarity hit me, disturbed me.
Moments of clarity on the toilet are more abundant than you think. Maybe it's from being in a small room, that looks the same as last time, that has nothing to interest you. The mind is unhindered by interesting tidbits of information. Because everything we see is a little bit of information. To jog my memory of a certain place in our travels I picture the way we took to get there. I can use my head as my own personal offline google earth. And like google earth, the picture doesn't change with the times either. Not until I go back, at least.
